RECOVERING THE SPIRIT

After a comeback win over the FA Cup at the weekend , Manchester City secured another win, this time in the Premier League. Guardiola’s team beat Leicester 2-0 on Wednesday to move up to fourth place in the competition. In the first game back after Haaland’s injury, Grealish scored again in the tournament with a pass from Savinho , and Marmoush honored his chance as a starter to extend the lead. The club has now gone three games without losing.

IN THE FIGHT FOR THE NEXT CHAMPIONS

Wednesday’s win at the Etihad Stadium puts City back in the top four of the Premier League, qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Manchester overtook Chelsea, who have yet to play in the current round, and now have 51 points. While Leicester remain in second-to-last place, with 17.

MORE THAN A YEAR WITHOUT MARKING

Manchester City’s triumph in the 30th round had a special taste for Jack Grealish. The goal he scored to open the scoring at the Etihad ended a 16-month drought without finding the net in the Premier League. The number 10 had last scored in the 2023/24 season, on December 16, when City drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace. In the current edition of the English Championship, Grealish has accumulated five goals and five assists in 31 games, combining appearances for England and the club.

BRAZILIAN TOUCH

City settled the game in the first half. Less than two minutes into the match, Doku entered the box and passed to Savinho on the right. The Brazilian passed it back, and Grealish arrived with a first-time shot that put it in the corner of the goal.

Grealish ended his own drought in the competition in the 28th minute. Gündogan crossed the ball into the box and the defence got in a muddle. Goalkeeper Hermansen went for the ball but was hampered by defender Faes and left Marmoush free to score.
