Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya makes a spectacular stoppage-time save to deny United victory
It was worth the ticket
The 73,000 fans who packed Old Trafford may have been disappointed that Manchester United did not win, but they were treated to a great game of football in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League. The match featured a stunning free-kick from Bruno Fernandes, a wonderful strike from Rice and a miracle last-gasp save from goalkeeper David Raya.
The Miracle of Raya
In the 47th minute of the second half, United had a chance to win the game. The ball came clean to Bruno Fernandes in the box. The midfielder, the team’s best player in the match, controlled it and kicked hard. David Raya threw himself into the air and, on reflex, made a great save. The ball then went up and, when it bounced, had the opposite effect. It was going in when Raya got up, made a spectacular jump and managed to tap the ball almost on the line, saving Arsenal.
The great goals
The first half was practically an attack against defense. Arsenal had the ball and stayed in the attacking half. However, they lacked effectiveness. They were unable to overcome United’s strong defense. They only posed any danger with shots from outside the area, but they did not force Onana to make any great saves. When United attacked, it was almost always on counterattacks with Garnacho being supplied by Bruno Fernandes. In one of these, in injury time, the team scored their goal. Garnacho was fouled by Trossard very close to the area. Bruno Fernandes took the shot perfectly and scored a great goal!
The game improved in the second half. United continued to close up well, but started to attack more. Zirkzee almost scored a great goal with a backheel and extended the lead. Arsenal, who continued to attack and had nine corners in the game, managed to equalize with an individual move. Timber made a carnival on the right, got away from several markers, invaded the area and passed the ball to Rice. Unmarked, the midfielder kicked a high cross, the ball hit the post and went in.
