Lyon protests Kvaratskhelia’s transfer to PSG
The southern French club have lodged a complaint with Ligue 1’s legal committee over the Georgian’s involvement in last Sunday’s clash.

Tensions are rising between Lyon and PSG . Following the row between John Textor and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, L’ Équipe has now reported that the southern French club has lodged a complaint with Ligue 1 ‘s legal committee , contesting the transfer of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to the Parisians and the Georgian’s presence in last Sunday’s clash between the two teams.
In an email sent to Ligue 1’s competitions committee on Tuesday, seen by L’Équipe , Lyon president John Textor wrote that Kvaratskhelia ‘s transfer to PSG “was only possible thanks to club financing that violated regulations prohibiting foreign subsidies” and added that “the approval of his contract and his registration as a new player violate the provisions of Ligue 1’s administrative regulations.”
This statement follows John Textor’s statements in the mixed zone after Sunday’s game and the interview with AS last week, in which the Lyon owner denounced the financing of PSG by the State of Qatar and put forward a possible appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Lyon is relying on Article 560 of the French championship regulations, which stipulates that “in the event of a breach of one of the provisions relating to the qualification and/or participation of a player, and regardless of any other applicable sanctions, the offending club shall forfeit the match as a penalty, but the club making the complaint shall not benefit from the points corresponding to the victory of the match. It shall retain the benefit of the points acquired and the goals scored during the match; goals scored during the match by the offending club’s team shall be disallowed. In the case of a match in which a winner was required, the club making the complaint shall be declared the winner.”
Another episode in the war that the presidents of the two clubs have been waging for several months, which, obviously, will not end here…
