Barcelona thrash Betis and reach the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey

Yamal destroys Betis

With a great performance by Lamine Yamal, Barcelona thrashed Betis 5-1 this Wednesday at the Olímpico de Montjuic and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. Yamal, Gavi, Koundé, Raphinha and Ferrán Torres scored the goals for the home team. Vitor Roque scored from the penalty spot.

The first half was a complete mess, and the 2-0 lead Barcelona took into the break seemed unfair given the amount of play Hansi Flick’s team produced. The team had 71% possession, an 8-3 shot on goal and a goal by Koundé – which would have been his second – was disallowed by millimetres.

In the second half, with Yamal still the main player, Barcelona did not slow down. Raphinha scored the third after a great play by the youngster. Ferrán Torres scored the fourth after a beautiful pass from Olmo, another standout player. And Lamine Yamal’s deserved goal came at the end. The referee even disallowed it for offside, but VAR validated it.

Yamal on the rise

The star of the game, Yamal scored a beautiful goal, provided a great assist for Koundé, would have had another for the same player if there had not been a millimetric offside and was also the author of the great play that ended in Raphinha’s goal. In the 2024/2025 season, the 17-year-old player has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists.
