Baldé and racist insults: “I am proudly black”

Barcelona full-back was subjected to racism in the match against Getafe

Baldé and racist insults

Álex Baldé was the target of several racist insults during Barcelona ‘s 1-1 draw with Getafe . Two weeks later, in a press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash with Atalanta , the Spanish full-back recalled the situation.

“It was a complicated situation. I received several insults in the game against Getafe . But because three or four people insulted us, we shouldn’t generalize Spanish football. We shouldn’t tarnish everyone’s image because of three or four people. We need to point out who is to blame and let the law take its course,” he began by saying.

“Personally, these insults don’t affect me. Being called black doesn’t affect me. I’m black and I’m proud of it. I’m surprised by the Getafe fans because their captain is black. We need to denounce it, that’s it,” said the Spanish international.

At the time, both the Barcelona and Getafe coaches condemned the incident, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino saying he was “shocked” by the racist insults directed at Baldé .
