Edwin van der Sar has reacted for the first time to Ruben Amorim’s arrival as Manchester United coach and commented on his first month in charge of the club, but first he remembered Erik Ten Hag, who he worked with at Ajax and who he hoped would have had more success in England.

“Of course there are a lot of things that need to happen at Man. United, but I think what Eric achieved at Ajax, the success in Europe, the way we played, that he got the tactics right, I hoped that would happen at Manchester as well ,” he began by saying, in an interview with Sky Sports , before recalling the time when he met his successor.

“Ruben, I think I met him four or five years ago, when we played against Sporting and he was the coach at the time. I was watching the Youth League game and he was there too, so I had a good chat with him. I think he is an open man, he has a sense of humour, he is open, his English is good,” he explained, admitting that he does not know his former club very well, but that he knows about the success it has had.

“I’m not sure, I haven’t always followed Sporting , but I’m sure that the scouts and the club’s coaches have done their homework to find a successor and I hope he brings Sporting success to the club. Time? It’s the greatest asset… it’s always good to have time, but at a certain point you need to get results and I’m sure those results will come,” he assured.
