João Neves ended up at left back and shone with Vitinha in another PSG victory
Midfielders scored two of the team’s goals, which also had a few scares against Toulouse
In both Portugal and France, PSG ‘s victory over Toulouse (3-0) is written in the language of Camões: João Neves (35′) and Vitinha (90+1′) scored two of the team’s goals, which remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 , to which was added the Brazilian Lucas Beraldo (84’).
Luis Enrique presented a team with several changes, with a view to next Tuesday’s game against Bayern in the Champions League (the Parisian team has only 4 points from 4 games…). Vitinha started on the bench and João Neves started in the most withdrawn position in midfield. The attacking front also ended up causing problems… for PSG itself: Barcola and Dembélé did not create any danger on the wings, Désiré Doué barely touched the ball and Asensio had a positional dilemma that kept him out of danger zones.
With the ball rolling, Lucas Beraldo almost brought the stadium to its feet with a backheel goal (7′), but 19-year-old goalkeeper Guillaume Restes made a great save. Toulouse defended 5-4-1 and did not allow PSG to create any danger. With a tight knot in this game, only an individual effort could undo it.
João Neves began to move up the pitch and this adjustment paid off in the 35th minute: the midfielder appeared at the edge of the area, where he received a sumptuous pass from Hakimi and shot, first time, towards goal – it was his second of the season, the first at the Parc des Princes.
Vitinha came on for the second half, replacing Yoram Zague, an 18-year-old who played in place of the injured Nuno Mendes . With this change, and given the lack of solutions, João Neves ended up playing at left back.
The protagonist of this phase of the game was Zaire-Emery, for better or for worse. The 18-year-old had a goal disallowed for offside (54′), prevented an equaliser with a crucial block to Aboukhlal ‘s shot (59′) and then almost set up Babicka for a goal (60’), but the forward wasted the chance in a privileged position.
When Toulouse started to believe in a draw, they neglected their defensive work and Beraldo took advantage to score the goal that gave them peace of mind (84′). With the game already decided, Kolo Muani showed his worth with a great assist for Vitinha’s goal (90+1′) – the Portuguese’s second of the season.
PSG won by a margin that does not reflect the difficulties they experienced, but they maintain a six-point advantage over Monaco and ended Toulouse’s run of three consecutive victories, which could see them drop from 10th place.
