English referee suspended for insulting Liverpool and Klopp: “he is sh***”
The punishment has already been confirmed by the English Referees’ Association (PGMOL)
The PGMOL has suspended referee David Coote indefinitely, the body said in a statement: “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will not be making any further comment until that process is complete.”
This punishment came hours after a video, the veracity of which has not yet been confirmed, circulated on social media, in which Coote says that Liverpool “is shit” and that Jurgen Klopp, the Reds ‘ coach from 2015 until last season, “is an asshole”.
“Klopp has already accused me of lying and I have no interest in speaking to someone who is so arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him,” says Coote, who also refereed the match between Liverpool and Aston Villa last Saturday, where the Reds , now coached by Arne Slot, won 2-0.
David Coote already has plenty of experience at the highest level of English football, having refereed games in the Premier League since 2018. According to the BBC , the video was filmed after a game between Liverpool and Burnley in July 2020, which ended 0-0 and after which Klopp was highly critical of Coote.
The same body reports that the referee, who is from Nottingham, informed the PMGOL that his club is Notts County and that, therefore, he cannot referee games for that club or Nottingham Forest .
