Harry Kane scores twice on special day and breaks Nordic resistance
Bayern forward scored both goals in England’s 2-0 win over Finland on the day he made his 100th appearance for the Three Lions. Greece won again with another goal from Ioannidis
England have been on a positive note again in the post-Southgate era. Under Lee Carsley, the Three Lions only know how to win and this Tuesday was no different. In the home match against Finland at Wembley, the English team beat the Nordic team 2-0.
Even before the match had started, Harry Kane was already the star of the show, as he was making his 100th appearance for England. And what better way to celebrate his 100th cap? For Kane , it was with goals. But it wasn’t easy to make the Wembley scoreboard work.
Hradecky defended everything and more and Lee Carsley’s men went into the break with a bitter 0-0, despite having 22 shots on target, compared to just two shots from the Finns.
The situation changed in the second half. After a lot of battling, Harry Kane finally managed to break through the tough Nordic defence. In the 57th minute, the Bayern forward received a pass from Alexander-Arnold and, from the edge of the penalty area, fired a rocket at Hradecky’s goal. On the day of his 100th international appearance, Kane scored his 67th goal for England , but it wasn’t over yet.
In the 76th minute, the Three Lions captain left his own mark behind and scored his 68th goal for England, making it 2-0. The Bayern striker was once again in the right place to receive Madueke ‘s pass and beat Hradecky again .
With two wins from two games, England share the lead in Group 2 of the Nations League B with Greece, both with 6 points.
Speaking of Greece , the Hellenic team also won this Tuesday, visiting the Republic of Ireland . Even the result was the same, as the Greeks also won 2-0.
After a first half marked by a balanced match between the two teams, Greece took the lead in the 50th minute through the usual suspect. Ioannidis showed that he is still on the ball in this Nations League and, after his two goals against Finland , he scored again. And what a great goal the former Sporting target scored .
Close to the final whistle, Tzolis (87′) made it 2-0 for Greece . The match also featured Benfica forward Pavlidis on the pitch, who came on to play the final minutes.
