Luka Modric decides, Real Madrid beats Sevilla and maintains a big advantage at the top of La Liga
Sergio Ramos returned to the Santiago Bernabéu
Sergio Ramos, one of Real Madrid’s most iconic players over the last fifteen years, returned to the Santiago Bernabéu with different colors. The now Sevilla captain had an unhappy reunion with some former teammates, with Luka Modric at the head.
The experienced Croatian midfielder, who won several Champions Leagues alongside Ramos, came on in the 71st minute and decided the match in the 80th minute, with a goal signed by Modric. He caught the ball at the edge of the area, adjusted it, and shot beyond Nyland’s reach.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, now relegated to the bench (he is 38 years old) is at the end of his contract. He gave one of the last moments of joy to the fans at the Santiago Bernabéu, at a time when Real Madrid has staged a recovery in the league table, after an almost impeccable first half against Girona.
Real Madrid ‘got’ three points despite several forced absences. Camavinga, Bellingham, Alaba, Militão or Joselu were unavailable. Sevilla ‘sinks’ in the table, in 15th place with 24 points. Real Madrid remains leader, with 65 points, eight more than Barcelona.
