Bayern Munich beats Augsburg and remains firmly at the top of the Bundesliga
Bayern Munich strengthened their lead in the Bundesliga today by winning 3-1 at Augsburg, after a comeback, and provisionally increased their lead over Bayer Leverkusen to nine points.

Jamal Musiala (42 minutes), Englishman Harry Kane (60), the competition’s top scorer, now with 23 goals, and Frenchman Chrislain Matsima (90+3), with an own goal, gave the victory to the Bavarians, who had started losing with a goal from Greek Dimitrios Giannoulis (30) and lined up against 10 men in the last half hour, after Swiss player Cédric Zesiger (59) was sent off.
Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha played full-time for Bayern, while left-back and compatriot Raphaël Guerreiro came on as a late substitute in the game, which Musiala left injured, having complained of muscle problems four days before the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Italian side Inter Milan.
Ever closer to regaining the title lost last season to Bayer Leverkusen, after 11 consecutive titles, the Bavarians lead the Bundesliga , with 68 points, against 59 of the ‘pharmacists’, second placed, who visit Heidenheim on Saturday.
Augsburg are eighth with 39 points but could be overtaken by Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart this time round, having broken a run of 11 games without losing in the competition and failing to get close to the 2025/26 European Cup qualifying spots.
