PSV reveals active tuberculosis case in squad
The identity of the player, who is “doing well despite the circumstances”, has already been revealed

PSV reported that one of its players has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis and that, “ although the risk of infection is low”, the club is monitoring the situation.
“One of the PSV players was diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The player in question is fine, despite the circumstances. Although the likelihood of new infections is low, the situation is being closely monitored in accordance with the usual protocols,” the club said in a statement.
The club did not want to reveal the identity of the player in question, but both the Spanish and Dutch press have already revealed that it is Lucas Pérez. The Spanish striker has strengthened the squad this winter but is expected to be out for the next five to six weeks, according to the same sources.
The 36-year-old Spaniard has only played for PSV for 24 minutes, spread across three games.
Thus, the current 2nd placed team in the Eredivisie has already started taking measures to prevent new infections: «Tracing of the source and contacts has been initiated and the people involved have been informed.»
Furthermore, “there is no indication that people who have been in the same environment as the infected player are infected.”
For now, PSV’s next game is scheduled for March 30 and is set to be a Dutch football classic as they host Ajax , who are leading the league by six points. It remains to be seen whether this case of active tuberculosis will not cause the postponement of this meeting.
