Percy Butler’s family has played an important role in his journey from a small Louisiana community to becoming a professional NFL safety. The Washington Commanders defensive back, whose full name is Percy Butler III, comes from Plaquemine, Louisiana, where strong family connections and community support helped shape his football career.
Butler became a father shortly after being selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, welcoming a daughter named Eire with his girlfriend at the time, Quetyria Williams. His father is identified through family records as Percy Lawrence Butler Jr., while his late grandfather, Percy Lawrence Butler Sr., was one of his most important mentors.
Here is everything publicly known about Percy Butler’s girlfriend, children, parents, siblings and family background.
Percy Butler’s Girlfriend: Quetyria Williams
Percy Butler’s publicly identified girlfriend is Quetyria Williams, who was named as his partner in a May 2022 article published by The Washington Post.
Williams received national attention shortly after Butler was selected by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft.
While Butler was celebrating his selection with family members and friends in Plaquemine, Louisiana, Williams contacted him to explain that she was experiencing contractions and needed to go to the hospital.
The couple subsequently welcomed their daughter, creating two major milestones in Butler’s life within approximately 48 hours.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Butler described the experience as an extraordinary sequence of events.
He had spent months preparing for the NFL Draft while also anticipating the birth of his first child. Fortunately, his daughter arrived before he traveled to Washington for the team’s rookie minicamp.
Williams and Butler were also photographed together at a Level99 grand-opening event in Washington, D.C., on September 17, 2025. Their appearance was documented by Washingtonian magazine.
However, a photograph of the two attending an event does not independently establish their current romantic relationship status.
As of now, there is no reliable public confirmation that Percy Butler and Quetyria Williams are married or engaged. Their present relationship status remains unconfirmed.
Percy Butler’s Children
Percy Butler has one publicly confirmed child, a daughter named Eire, who was born in May 2022.
Her birth occurred immediately after Butler was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
Becoming a father at the beginning of his professional football career significantly changed his outlook on life.
Eire – Percy Butler’s Daughter
Eire is the daughter of Percy Butler and Quetyria Williams.
According to The Washington Post, Williams gave birth shortly after Butler’s draft celebration in Plaquemine.
The newspaper identified their newborn daughter as Eire, although a family obituary published later in 2022 includes the similar name Eiress among the descendants of Butler’s grandfather.
Because the records use different versions of the name, Eire is the spelling used in the contemporary report about her birth.
Butler welcomed fatherhood with excitement and acknowledged that the responsibility of raising his daughter would influence his decisions both on and off the football field.
During a June 2022 interview with the Washington Commanders, Butler explained that he was constantly considering how his actions would affect his daughter’s future.
He wanted to make responsible decisions and establish a successful football career that would allow him to provide for his family.
The experience also created a personal connection between Butler and former Washington running back Brian Mitchell, who had similarly entered the NFL as a young father.
As of now, Eire is Percy Butler’s only publicly confirmed child. There is insufficient reliable information to establish whether he has welcomed additional children.
Percy Butler’s Parents
Percy Butler III comes from a Louisiana family with several generations connected to Plaquemine.
Family records identify Percy Lawrence Butler Jr. as his father, continuing the naming tradition shared with his grandfather, Percy Lawrence Butler Sr.
Although Butler has discussed the influence of his family and grandfather in NFL interviews, detailed public information about his parents remains limited.
Who Is Percy Butler’s Father?
Percy Butler’s father is identified as Percy Lawrence Butler Jr. in the family’s generational naming records.
The identification is supported by the September 2022 obituary of Percy Lawrence Butler Sr., which names Percy Jr. among his children and Percy III among his grandchildren.
The Butler family has deep roots in Plaquemine, a small Louisiana city situated near Baton Rouge.
Percy grew up in an environment where relatives and community members maintained strong relationships.
Those connections became particularly important when he began pursuing opportunities to play college football.
However, information about his father’s occupation, personal background and specific involvement in his football development is not well documented in authoritative sports reporting.
Consequently, those details remain unconfirmed.
Who Is Percy Butler’s Mother?
The identity of Percy Butler’s biological mother has not been reliably established through his official NFL and college football biographies.
Although the Butler family has been discussed in newspaper articles and official team features, available reporting does not provide a verified account of his mother’s name, profession or background.
His grandfather’s obituary names Tenisha alongside Percy Butler Jr., but that reference alone does not establish whether she is the NFL player’s biological mother or another parental figure.
As of now, there is insufficient reliable public information to confirm Percy Butler’s mother’s identity.
Percy Butler’s Grandfather: Percy Lawrence Butler Sr.
One of the most important people in Percy Butler’s family was his late grandfather, Percy Lawrence Butler Sr., affectionately known as Big Tip.
His grandfather was born in 1953 and spent much of his life in the Plaquemine community.
According to a June 2022 Washington Commanders article, Butler regarded his grandfather as one of his biggest mentors.
Former Washington running back Brian Mitchell, another native of Plaquemine, explained that he had known Butler’s grandfather for many years.
The connection between the families helped strengthen the relationship between Mitchell and the younger NFL safety.
Mitchell and Butler followed remarkably similar football journeys.
Both attended Plaquemine High School, played college football for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns and were eventually drafted by Washington.
Their shared background helped create a mentorship relationship during Butler’s transition into professional football.
What Happened to Percy Butler’s Grandfather?
Percy Lawrence Butler Sr. died on September 24, 2022, at the age of 69.
His obituary, published by The Advocate and Demby & Son Funeral Home, confirmed that he died at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The obituary identified his children as Percy Jr., Charmelle and Chanta, and listed several grandchildren, including Percy III.
It also mentioned a great-granddaughter named Eiress.
His death occurred during Butler’s rookie NFL season, only months after the young safety was drafted by Washington.
His grandfather’s mentorship remains an important part of the publicly documented story of Butler’s upbringing.
Percy Butler’s Siblings
Information about Percy Butler’s brothers and sisters remains limited.
His official Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns biography and Washington Commanders player profile do not identify any siblings by name.
Although his grandfather’s obituary lists multiple grandchildren, it does not clearly establish which are siblings of the NFL player and which are his cousins.
Therefore, the exact number of brothers or sisters Percy Butler has cannot be reliably determined from those records.
As of now, the identities, ages and occupations of Percy Butler’s siblings have not been independently verified through authoritative public sources.
How Percy Butler’s Family Influenced His Football Career
Family responsibility has been central to Percy Butler’s experience as a professional football player.
Growing up in Plaquemine, he developed a strong appreciation for the close relationships that connected families throughout the community.
His grandfather’s mentorship and the support he received from people in his hometown helped him pursue opportunities beyond Louisiana.
However, the arrival of his daughter in 2022 created an entirely new sense of responsibility.
During an interview with the Washington Commanders, Butler explained that becoming a father caused him to think more carefully about his decisions.
He wanted to ensure that his professional career would provide stability and opportunities for his daughter.
Former Washington player Brian Mitchell offered him additional guidance, drawing on his own experiences of entering the NFL as a young parent.
Their relationship demonstrates how shared family experiences helped Butler adjust to professional football.
