Milton Williams Jr. is the father of New England Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams.
He previously worked as a long-distance truck driver, transporting goods across different states.
His work required long hours and frequent overnight shifts.
However, he made considerable efforts to ensure that his employment did not prevent him from supporting his children.
During an October 2022 interview with Sports Illustrated, Milton explained that his father often worked overnight so he could attend family sporting events.
He sometimes arrived home from work in the late afternoon, watched his children compete in the evening, and returned to work after getting very little sleep.
Watching his father maintain that schedule made a lasting impression on the future NFL player.
How Milton Williams Jr. Influenced His Son’s Work Ethic
Milton Williams has repeatedly identified his father as his greatest role model.
During his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, he explained that his father’s determination helped him understand the importance of working hard even when circumstances were difficult.
Although the elder Williams spent many hours driving trucks, he rarely missed his children’s games.
He attended football games, basketball competitions, and track meets whenever possible.
Sometimes, he had only a few hours to sleep before beginning another work shift.
For Milton, those sacrifices demonstrated that dedication required more than simply making promises.
His father consistently demonstrated his values through his actions.
Williams eventually adopted a similar attitude toward football training, conditioning, and preparation.
He believed that if his father could maintain such a demanding schedule to support the family, he had little excuse for not working hard as an athlete.

According to Sports Illustrated, he played safety at the junior college level.
He later participated in a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys but did not receive a place on the team’s roster.
His unsuccessful attempt to join the Cowboys became a memorable family story.
The family lived in Crowley, Texas, approximately 30 minutes from AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys’ home stadium.
However, unlike many football fans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the elder Williams did not support the Cowboys.
Milton explained that his father’s experience influenced his own feelings toward the team.
Although the younger Williams eventually joined the Philadelphia Eagles, he already had a personal motivation to compete against Dallas.

He explained that he had once dreamed of hearing his own name called during an NFL Draft.

The cause also became meaningful because other people close to him had experienced cancer.
During the 2025 season, he discussed the experiences of former teammate Alex Singleton and Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams.
