Jalen Wilson comes from an athletic family in Texas where basketball has been part of life across multiple generations. The Atlanta Hawks forward is the son of former college basketball players Lisa and Derale Wilson and grew up alongside two younger brothers, Jace and Jevin Wilson.
Wilson’s parents helped guide him through his development from a talented young player in Denton, Texas, to a national champion and All-American at Kansas before he reached the NBA. His brother Jace also became a Division I athlete, choosing football rather than basketball as his primary college sport. Despite Jalen’s increasingly public professional career, he has kept his romantic life considerably more private.
Who Is Jalen Wilson’s Girlfriend?
As of now, Jalen Wilson has not publicly confirmed a current girlfriend, wife or romantic partner through reliable sources.
Wilson’s official NBA biography discusses his parents, brothers, education and basketball background but does not identify a romantic partner. His public interviews have similarly focused much more heavily on basketball and family than on his dating life.
There have been claims on unofficial websites and social-media pages about Wilson’s past relationships, but those reports are not strong enough to establish his current relationship status.
For that reason, it is more accurate to describe Wilson’s romantic life as private unless he personally confirms a relationship or a reputable publication documents one.
Is Jalen Wilson Married?
There is no reliable public confirmation that Jalen Wilson is married.
The Atlanta Hawks forward has not publicly announced a marriage, and neither his NBA biography nor other dependable basketball profiles identify a wife.
Does Jalen Wilson Have Children?
There are no publicly confirmed reports that Jalen Wilson has children.
Reliable NBA and college sources do not identify Wilson as a father, and he has not publicly announced having a son or daughter.
As of now, therefore, Jalen Wilson has no publicly confirmed children.
Who Are Jalen Wilson’s Parents?
Jalen Wilson’s parents are Lisa Wilson and Derale Wilson. Both played college basketball, giving Jalen an unusual advantage while learning how to navigate the demands of competitive basketball.
Their experience meant that basketball advice inside the Wilson household came from two people who had personally experienced college athletics.
Jalen has credited both parents with helping guide him through his playing journey, particularly during difficult moments such as injuries, recruiting decisions and questions surrounding his professional future.
Jalen Wilson’s Mother: Lisa Wilson
Lisa Wilson is Jalen Wilson’s mother and a former college basketball player.
Lisa was originally an Oklahoma State basketball signee. However, an ACL injury altered her path before she could play for the program.
She later continued her basketball career at Seminole State College before playing at Oklahoma City University.
Her own experience with injuries became particularly relevant when Jalen suffered a serious setback almost immediately after beginning his college career at Kansas.
Wilson appeared in only two games during the 2019-20 season before breaking his ankle. The injury forced him to take a medical redshirt and spend months working back toward full fitness.
Having parents who understood the physical and emotional challenges of college basketball gave Jalen people at home who could provide perspective throughout that process.
Lisa was also heavily involved during Jalen’s recruitment.
Jalen originally signed with Michigan, but head coach John Beilein left the Wolverines for the NBA before Wilson arrived on campus. Jalen subsequently reopened his recruitment.
Lisa later explained that dozens of programs contacted the family once Wilson became available again. Kansas eventually emerged as the best choice, and Jalen committed to the Jayhawks in June 2019.
Jalen Wilson’s Father: Derale Wilson
Derale Wilson is Jalen Wilson’s father and also played basketball at a high level.
Derale competed collegiately at Texas Christian University before continuing his basketball career professionally in Europe.
His experience gave Jalen direct access to someone who understood both college basketball and the professional side of the sport.
Kansas has highlighted how valuable it was for Jalen to have two former college players as parents because both could provide advice about training, competition and handling adversity.
Derale’s professional experience overseas also made the idea of earning a living through basketball something that already existed within Jalen’s immediate family before he reached the NBA.
How Did Jalen Wilson’s Parents Influence His Basketball Career?
Basketball knowledge was readily available in the Wilson household.
Jalen has explained that he appreciated being able to seek guidance from parents who understood the sport rather than simply watching it from the outside.
That guidance became particularly important during the beginning of his Kansas career.
Wilson arrived in Lawrence as a highly rated recruit, but his ankle injury prevented him from immediately showing what he could do.
The setback tested his patience and required him to spend an entire season rehabilitating rather than playing.
Wilson eventually returned stronger and became one of Kansas’ most important players. His career included an NCAA national championship, Big 12 Player of the Year honors and consensus First-Team All-America recognition.
The patience required to reach those achievements reflected many of the lessons he received from his family.
Who Are Jalen Wilson’s Siblings?
Jalen Wilson has two younger brothers, Jace Wilson and Jevin Wilson.
Kansas officially listed both Jace and Jevin as Jalen’s siblings during his college career, while Jace’s UTSA football biography independently confirms Jalen and Jevin as his two brothers.
Athletics are particularly important in the Wilson family. Jalen became a professional basketball player, while Jace pursued Division I football.
Jace Wilson
Jace Wilson is Jalen Wilson’s younger brother and an accomplished football player.
Jace was born on November 29, 2003, and grew up in Denton, Texas, alongside Jalen and Jevin.
Like Jalen, Jace attended Guyer High School, where he developed into a multi-sport athlete.
He competed in football, basketball and baseball before concentrating primarily on football.
As a wide receiver, Jace became a three-star recruit and helped Guyer make deep runs in the Texas high-school playoffs, including an appearance in the Class 6A Division II state championship game.
He later joined the University of Texas at San Antonio football program.
Jace appeared in games for UTSA as a freshman and continued earning playing time over the following seasons.
His athletic career demonstrates that Jalen is not the only member of the Wilson family to compete at the Division I level.
Jevin Wilson
Jevin Wilson is Jalen Wilson’s youngest brother.
Both Kansas and UTSA officially identify Jevin as part of the Wilson sibling group.
Unlike Jalen and Jace, however, Jevin has remained much less visible in national sports coverage.
Reliable public information about his education, athletic career and personal life is limited, so those details should not be assumed based on unofficial social-media profiles.
What is firmly established is that Jalen, Jace and Jevin are the three sons of Lisa and Derale Wilson.
Is Jace Wilson Related to Jalen Wilson?
Yes. Jace Wilson is Jalen Wilson’s younger brother.
The relationship is independently documented by both Jalen’s Kansas biography and Jace’s UTSA football profile.
The brothers followed different athletic paths. Jalen focused on basketball and eventually reached the NBA, while Jace concentrated on football and became a Division I wide receiver.
Both nevertheless developed at Guyer High School in Denton, making the school an important part of the Wilson family’s athletic story.
Basketball Runs in Jalen Wilson’s Family
Basketball is deeply connected to the Wilson family.
Lisa played college basketball at Seminole State College and Oklahoma City University.
Derale played at TCU before competing professionally in Europe.
Jalen then became the next member of the family to reach a high level in the sport, eventually winning an NCAA championship and entering the NBA.
Even Jace played basketball during his high-school years before choosing football as his primary sport.
This athletic background gave Jalen a support system that understood the commitment required to compete at the college and professional levels.
Why Is Jalen Wilson Named Jalen?
Jalen Wilson’s first name also has a basketball connection.
His mother has said that he was named after former NBA player Jalen Rose.
The connection became an interesting part of Wilson’s recruitment because he originally committed to Michigan, the same university where Rose became famous as a member of the Fab Five.
Although Wilson ultimately changed his commitment and attended Kansas instead, basketball was literally part of his identity from birth.
Where Is Jalen Wilson From?
Jalen Derale Wilson was born on November 4, 2000, in Arlington, Texas.
He grew up in the Denton area and attended John H. Guyer High School.
Wilson became a four-year starter and developed into one of the best high-school forwards in Texas.
During his junior season, he averaged 16.1 points per game. As a senior, that figure increased to 18.1 points per game.
Guyer posted a combined 70-7 record during those two seasons and reached consecutive regional championship games.
Wilson’s performances made him a four-star recruit and attracted offers from several major college basketball programs.
Jalen Wilson’s Recruitment From Michigan to Kansas
Wilson initially signed a national letter of intent with Michigan.
The situation changed when head coach John Beilein left Michigan in 2019 to become head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wilson requested his release and reopened his recruitment.
His mother later said the family received interest from dozens of schools almost immediately.
Kansas, North Carolina and several other prominent programs became involved, but Wilson chose the Jayhawks.
The decision became one of the most important of his basketball career.
Jalen Wilson’s Kansas Career
Wilson’s Kansas career began with frustration because of the ankle injury that ended his freshman season after only two appearances.
He returned the following year and gradually became an important part of Bill Self’s rotation.
His breakthrough included helping Kansas win the 2022 NCAA national championship.
Wilson played a major role throughout that tournament run, including recording several double-digit rebounding performances.
Instead of leaving immediately after the championship, he returned to Kansas for another season.
The decision produced the best year of his college career.
During the 2022-23 season, Wilson averaged 20.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and became one of the best players in college basketball.
He was named Big 12 Player of the Year, earned consensus First-Team All-America honors and won the Julius Erving Award as the country’s top small forward.
Wilson completed his Kansas career with 1,475 points and 802 rebounds.
Jalen Wilson’s Journey to the NBA
Wilson entered the 2023 NBA Draft after completing his career at Kansas.
The Brooklyn Nets selected him with the 51st overall pick.
He initially joined Brooklyn on a two-way contract before earning a standard NBA deal during his rookie season.
Wilson spent three seasons with the Nets and appeared in 176 regular-season games.
One of his early professional highlights came during the 2024 NBA Summer League, when he was named the event’s Most Valuable Player.
His time with Brooklyn ended after the 2025-26 season when the Nets did not extend him a qualifying offer.
Jalen Wilson’s Move to the Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks signed Jalen Wilson to a two-way contract on July 22, 2026.
The deal allows Wilson to spend time with both Atlanta and its NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks.
Atlanta added him after three seasons with Brooklyn, bringing in a versatile forward with NBA experience, championship experience from college and the ability to contribute in several roles.
The move gave Wilson a fresh opportunity to establish himself within another NBA organization while continuing the professional basketball tradition started by his father.
