Mikkel Desler’s Family: Wife, Children, Parents and Siblings

Last Updated on October 2, 2026 by Filepe

Mikkel Desler is a Danish professional footballer who has built a successful career across Denmark, Norway, France and the United States. Born on February 19, 1995, in Assens, Denmark, the right-back developed through Assens FC and Odense Boldklub before later representing FK Haugesund, Toulouse FC and Austin FC.

Although Desler has spent more than a decade in professional football, he has kept much of his family life away from public attention. It is confirmed that he is married, but the identity of his wife has not been widely disclosed. Reliable public information about his children, parents and siblings is also limited.

Mikkel Desler’s Wife

Mikkel Desler is married. Confirmation came publicly around the time of his move from Toulouse FC to Austin FC in 2024.

After arriving in Texas, Desler explained that his wife had initially been unable to join him because of issues surrounding her permission to enter the United States. Speaking during his arrival in Austin, the Danish defender said that getting his wife to join him was his first priority.

This provided direct confirmation from Desler himself that he has a wife. Austin FC had also referred to Desler’s family when announcing his signing, saying that the organization was happy to welcome Mikkel and his family to Austin.

However, his wife’s name has not been reliably disclosed in the mainstream football sources and interviews reviewed. Desler appears to deliberately keep her identity and personal life outside the football spotlight.

For that reason, it is preferable not to attach a name to Mikkel Desler’s wife unless the player or another authoritative source publicly confirms it.

Does Mikkel Desler Have Children?

As of now, there is no reliable public confirmation that Mikkel Desler has children.

Austin FC’s announcement described Desler as arriving with his family, but the club did not explain whether that referred only to his wife or whether the couple also has children.

Similarly, Desler’s interviews and official player profiles do not publicly identify any sons or daughters.

Because the existence of children has not been clearly confirmed, it would be speculative to claim that Desler is a father. His family has generally remained private despite his long professional career.

Mikkel Desler’s Parents

Mikkel Desler was born and raised in Assens, Denmark. However, the names of his parents have not been reliably documented in the major football biographies and interviews reviewed.

Desler has occasionally referred to his family when discussing important moments in his career. While at Toulouse FC, for example, he explained that reaching 100 appearances for the French club was something special both for himself and his family.

Those comments demonstrate that his family remained connected to and proud of his football journey, but Desler did not provide further information about individual relatives.

Mikkel Desler’s Father

The identity of Mikkel Desler’s father has not been clearly established by reliable public football sources.

There are individuals sharing parts of Desler’s surname and his full family name, Mikkel Desler Puggaard, in Danish public records. However, sharing a surname or having a business connection is not enough to establish a parent-child relationship.

Without direct confirmation from Desler, his club or a dependable biographical source, it would therefore be inappropriate to identify any specific individual as his father.

Mikkel Desler’s Mother

The name of Mikkel Desler’s mother has similarly remained outside the public record available through reliable football sources.

Desler has generally spoken about his relatives collectively as his family rather than discussing his mother individually in interviews.

Details about her profession, background and involvement in his early football career consequently remain private.

Does Mikkel Desler Have Siblings?

As of now, there is no reliable public information confirming whether Mikkel Desler has brothers or sisters.

His official profiles from Austin FC and former clubs focus primarily on his career and do not list siblings. Interviews available publicly also provide little information about the structure of his immediate family.

Because of this, people who share the surnames Desler or Puggaard should not automatically be described as Mikkel’s siblings without additional evidence.

Mikkel Desler’s Childhood in Assens

Although his parents have remained private, Desler’s connection to his hometown is well established. He grew up in Assens, a town on the Danish island of Funen, and began playing football with Assens FC.

His performances at youth level eventually brought him into the academy of Odense Boldklub, commonly known as OB, one of the major clubs on Funen.

Desler progressed through the OB system and developed into a highly regarded young Danish footballer. He made his first-team debut in 2014 and went on to make more than 100 appearances for the club.

His rise from local football in Assens to the Danish Superliga established the foundation for a career that would eventually take him to several countries.

Mikkel Desler’s Full Name and Danish Background

Mikkel’s full name is Mikkel Desler Puggaard. He was born in Assens on February 19, 1995, and is Danish.

Desler also represented Denmark extensively at youth international level. He appeared for several Danish youth national teams and was selected for Denmark’s squad at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Despite his international career and years playing abroad, his connection with Denmark has remained an important part of his identity.

Mikkel Desler’s Move Away From Denmark

After establishing himself at OB, Desler left Denmark in 2019 to join Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

The move represented the beginning of an increasingly international period in his life. He spent more than two seasons in Norway before joining Toulouse FC in France in 2021.

At Toulouse, Desler experienced some of the most successful years of his professional career. He helped the club win Ligue 2 and promotion to France’s top division before becoming part of the team that won the Coupe de France in 2023.

Desler also competed in European football with Toulouse, including the UEFA Europa League.

Mikkel Desler and His Family in Toulouse

Desler developed a particularly strong connection with Toulouse during his three years in France.

When he reached 100 appearances for the club in 2024, he described the milestone as an incredible achievement for both himself and his family.

The comment is one of the relatively few occasions on which Desler has publicly referenced his relatives. It suggests that his family followed his achievements closely even though they generally remained outside media attention.

By the end of his Toulouse career, Desler had played 103 matches across all competitions for the French club.

Mikkel Desler’s Family and the Move to Austin

Desler agreed to join Austin FC in June 2024 after the conclusion of his Toulouse contract.

The move involved a major change not only professionally but also personally. Desler was relocating from Europe to Texas with his family.

Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell specifically mentioned the player’s family when the signing was announced, welcoming Mikkel and his family to Austin.

However, Desler arrived in the United States before his wife. Her immigration paperwork had been delayed, meaning she initially remained behind while he began settling into his new surroundings.

Desler publicly explained that resolving the situation and getting his wife to Austin was his immediate priority.

The episode provided a rare glimpse into Desler’s personal life and confirmed that his wife is an important part of his journey between European and American football.

Mikkel Desler at Austin FC

Desler officially joined Austin FC during the summer of 2024 and made his Major League Soccer debut shortly afterward.

The experienced Danish defender brought more than 300 professional appearances to Austin after playing in Denmark, Norway and France.

He subsequently obtained permanent resident status in the United States, meaning he no longer occupied an MLS international roster slot.

Desler remains part of Austin FC and wears the number 3 shirt for the club.

Why Mikkel Desler Keeps His Family Private

Desler has never publicly suggested that his family must be secret. However, his media appearances show a clear separation between his professional career and the identities of his relatives.

He is willing to mention his wife and family when they are relevant to his football journey, but he rarely shares their names or detailed personal information publicly.

This means that reliable reporting about his family should distinguish between confirmed information and speculation. His marriage is confirmed, while the names of his parents and siblings and whether he has children remain insufficiently documented.
