Prince Osei Owusu comes from a Ghanaian family despite being born and raised in Germany. Born on January 7, 1997, in Wertheim am Main, the striker grew up with a strong connection to his parents’ homeland and eventually chose to represent Ghana internationally after previously playing for Germany at youth level.
Owusu has revealed a few meaningful details about his parents, particularly their influence during the beginning of his football journey. His father was the person who eventually registered him with a football club, while his mother initially had reservations about him pursuing the sport. However, both parents have remained largely outside the public spotlight. Their names have not been reliably published, and similarly little verified information is available about possible siblings, a girlfriend or children.
Who Is Prince Owusu’s Girlfriend?
As of now, Prince Owusu has not publicly confirmed the identity of a girlfriend or romantic partner through a reliable interview, official club source or established media organization.
The Ghana international has spent more than a decade in professional football, but coverage of his career has concentrated overwhelmingly on his performances, transfers and international football rather than dating or relationships.
There are unofficial websites that make claims about Owusu’s relationship status, but they do not provide sufficient evidence to establish the identity of a girlfriend. Such information should therefore not be presented as fact.
Owusu’s current relationship status remains private unless he chooses to discuss it publicly himself.
Is Prince Owusu Married?
There is no reliable current confirmation that Prince Owusu is married.
An old VfB Stuttgart player profile from his early professional career listed his marital status as single, but that information dates from many years ago and cannot be used to establish his present relationship status.
More recent official profiles from CF Montréal, FIFA and the Ghana Football Association do not identify a wife or spouse.
Does Prince Owusu Have Children?
As of now, no children have been reliably confirmed for Prince Owusu.
In a November 2025 FIFA interview following his first appearances for Ghana, Owusu spoke about experiences that he could one day tell his “future kids.” While the wording suggests that he was thinking about children in the future, it should not by itself be treated as definitive evidence about his current parental status.
No official club biography or dependable media report currently identifies Owusu as a father.
Who Are Prince Owusu’s Parents?
Prince Owusu was born to Ghanaian parents in Germany.
FIFA specifically describes him as having been born in Wertheim to Ghanaian parents, while Owusu himself has repeatedly referred to Ghana as the homeland of his mother and father.
Their names, occupations and precise places of origin within Ghana have not been reliably published in the major sources covering their son’s career.
Despite maintaining private lives, Owusu’s parents played an important part in shaping both his football development and his connection with Ghana.
Prince Owusu’s Father
Prince Owusu’s father played an especially important role at the beginning of his football career.
An early profile of Owusu’s development explains that he was constantly playing football as a young child. Eventually, his father recognized his enthusiasm and registered him with SV Grün-Weiss Sommerrain, one of the first clubs in his development.
Owusu later continued at FC Stuttgart-Cannstatt before attracting the attention of larger academy systems in the Stuttgart area.
His father’s decision to place him into organized football therefore helped transform a childhood passion into structured training.
Prince Owusu’s Mother
Prince Owusu’s mother initially had a different view of her son’s involvement in football.
Accounts of his childhood state that she originally did not want him to pursue the sport seriously.
Nevertheless, Owusu continued playing whenever possible, and his enthusiasm eventually resulted in his father enrolling him at a club.
No reliable public source gives his mother’s name or occupation, and she appears to have remained outside the media spotlight throughout her son’s professional career.
Both of Prince Owusu’s Parents Are From Ghana
Owusu’s Ghanaian family background became particularly important later in his international career.
Although he was born in Germany and represented Germany at U15, U18 and U19 level, his parents’ nationality meant Ghana remained an important part of his identity.
Owusu told FIFA that choosing Ghana was ultimately an easy decision because he loves the country and feels culturally connected to it.
He explained that he spent numerous holidays in Ghana while growing up, allowing him to experience the country directly rather than knowing it only through stories from his parents.
Those visits helped create the attachment that eventually influenced his senior international decision.
Prince Owusu Spent Childhood Holidays in Ghana
Owusu grew up in Germany, but Ghana remained present throughout his childhood.
He has said that he regularly visited the country for holidays and became familiar with Ghanaian culture.
This family connection appears to have remained strong even while Owusu progressed through Germany’s elite football system.
Years later, when international opportunities emerged, the emotional connection with his parents’ homeland played an important role in his choice.
Why Prince Owusu Chose Ghana Over Germany
Owusu’s international career initially appeared likely to remain connected with Germany.
He represented Germany at several youth levels and scored for the country’s junior national teams while developing at VfB Stuttgart.
However, he never received a senior Germany appearance.
Ghana eventually approached him following his strong performances in Major League Soccer.
Owusu made clear that he did not require a lengthy period to decide. Ghana was his parents’ homeland, he had spent significant time there and he identified strongly with the culture.
His Ghana Debut Was a Family Milestone
Owusu received his first senior Ghana call-up in November 2025 for international friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
He made his Black Stars debut against Japan on November 14, entering as a substitute.
Afterward, Owusu described representing his parents’ homeland as a source of immense pride.
The appearance completed an international journey that had begun with Germany’s youth teams more than a decade earlier.
For Owusu, wearing Ghana’s colors represented more than simply a football decision because it formally connected his professional career with his family heritage.
Does Prince Owusu Have Siblings?
As of now, reliable public sources do not clearly establish whether Prince Owusu has brothers or sisters.
Detailed profiles from Hoffenheim, VfB Stuttgart, Toronto FC, CF Montréal and FIFA discuss his development and Ghanaian background without identifying siblings.
This does not mean Owusu is necessarily an only child. It simply means there is not enough verified public information to state whether he has brothers or sisters.
Because Owusu is a common Ghanaian surname, other footballers and public figures carrying the surname should not automatically be described as his relatives.
Prince Owusu Grew Up in Germany
Prince Osei Owusu was born in Wertheim am Main, Germany, on January 7, 1997.
His football upbringing took place largely around Stuttgart.
After beginning with SV Grün-Weiss Sommerrain, he continued at FC Stuttgart-Cannstatt.
At approximately 12 years old, Owusu received opportunities to trial with larger clubs.
He initially tried out for Stuttgarter Kickers without earning a place, but another opportunity soon followed with VfB Stuttgart.
His Parents Saw Him Join VfB Stuttgart’s Academy
Joining VfB Stuttgart in 2009 represented one of the biggest early steps in Owusu’s career.
The move placed him within one of Germany’s respected youth-development systems.
Owusu developed into a prolific striker and became the leading scorer in the South/Southwest division of Germany’s U17 Bundesliga during the 2013-14 season.
He scored 23 goals in 24 league appearances during that campaign.
His performances also led to opportunities with Germany’s youth national teams.
Prince Owusu Became a Professional Footballer
Owusu eventually progressed from Stuttgart’s academy into VfB Stuttgart II.
He made his professional debut in Germany’s 3. Liga in July 2015.
His early senior career was not always straightforward, particularly because goals initially became more difficult to produce against experienced professional defenders.
He nevertheless continued developing and later joined Hoffenheim’s reserve team in January 2017.
Owusu scored 17 goals during his period with Hoffenheim II and rebuilt momentum in his career.
Prince Owusu Spent Years in German Professional Football
Owusu’s career later took him through several clubs in Germany.

Later spells followed with SC Paderborn, Erzgebirge Aue and Jahn Regensburg.
His 2022-23 season with Regensburg proved particularly productive, with Owusu scoring nine goals in Germany’s second division.
That campaign helped open the door to the next major chapter of his career.
Prince Owusu Moved From Germany to Canada
Toronto FC signed Owusu in August 2023.
The move represented his first professional club experience outside Germany and placed him thousands of kilometers from the country where he and his family had built their lives.
Owusu gradually established himself in Major League Soccer and produced a strong 2024 campaign.
He scored nine MLS goals for Toronto that season and also contributed in the Canadian Championship.
Prince Owusu Joined CF Montréal
CF Montréal acquired Owusu in January 2025 after securing his right of first refusal from Toronto FC.
He quickly became an important attacking player for Montréal.

His performances earned him the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy as CF Montréal’s Most Valuable Player for the season.
Prince Owusu Extended His CF Montréal Contract
Owusu’s successful first season persuaded CF Montréal to extend his agreement.
The club announced a new contract covering the 2026 season, the 2027 sprint season and the 2027-28 campaign.
Montréal also holds options for the following two seasons.
Owusu described Montréal as a special place for him and said he was proud to continue with the club.
His Parents’ Homeland Is Now Part of His Professional Identity
Owusu spent most of his football life associated with Germany.
He was born there, developed there and represented Germany internationally at youth level.
However, reaching Ghana’s senior national team brought his family heritage into the center of his professional identity.
His own explanation makes clear that this connection came directly from his upbringing: Ghana was his parents’ country, somewhere he visited repeatedly and a culture with which he had always identified.
Prince Owusu Keeps His Wider Family Private
Despite his increasingly prominent career in MLS and with Ghana, Owusu has kept most details about his relatives outside the public spotlight.
His parents’ Ghanaian heritage is firmly established, and early reporting confirms the different roles his mother and father played when he first became interested in football.
However, neither parent has been reliably identified by name in authoritative sources.
No brothers or sisters can currently be identified with confidence either.
There is similarly no reliable confirmation of a girlfriend, wife or children.
As of now, the most accurate publicly documented picture of Prince Owusu’s family is that he was born in Germany to Ghanaian parents, his father helped launch his organized football career, his mother initially had reservations about the sport, and both parents gave him the Ghanaian heritage he proudly represents at senior international level.
