Spanish legend Sergio Ramos remains the most intriguing free agent in world football. After leaving Monterrey in December, the 39-year-old defender is reportedly weighing up two drastically different offers: a return to the European elite with AC Milan or a sensational move to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in Iraq.

The president of the Iraqi club, Maad Badai, confirmed the ambitious pursuit in a recent interview. “The offer to Sergio Ramos is 100% real and genuine,” Badai stated. “It was made by the board, and his agent has acknowledged the proposal. We are now awaiting his final answer.”

While Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya offers a historic move to the Middle East, AC Milan has reportedly entered the race with a more traditional proposal. According to Iraqi club officials, the Rossoneri have put a $5 million salary on the table to bring Ramos back to the Champions League stage.

Ramos’s current situation as a free agent has sparked interest across Europe:

  • France: Reports from Santi Aouna suggest that Paris FC approached the Spaniard, but the player showed no interest in the project. OGC Nice also held talks, according to Kop’Aiglons.
  • Mexico: Ramos spent the latter half of 2025 with Monterrey, proving he still has the physical capacity to compete at a high level.

From Player to Owner?

While clubs scramble for his signature, Sergio Ramos might be planning a completely different career move. According to COPE, the veteran is currently involved in negotiations to purchase Sevilla FC.

The deal would see Ramos return to his boyhood club not as a player, but as a majority shareholder. This potential business move could explain why he has been hesitant to sign a long-term contract elsewhere this January.
