Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield has reached a critical turning point. According to former Liverpool midfielder and BBC pundit Danny Murphy, the Egyptian forward could leave the club at the end of the season if manager Arne Slot remains in charge.

The relationship between the “Egyptian King” and the Dutch coach has reportedly soured after Slot opted to bench Salah in several key matches. This tactical decision led to a public display of frustration from the striker, sparking rumors that his legendary tenure with the Reds might be coming to an abrupt end.

“A New Spark Needed”

Speaking to BBC Sport (via OneFootball), Danny Murphy suggested that a change in leadership might be the only way to keep Salah at the club. “With a different coach, he could find new motivation and a new spark,” Murphy explained, highlighting the disconnect between the star player and Slot’s current system.

Saudi Arabia or Anfield?

The speculation surrounding a move to the Saudi Pro League continues to intensify. While Salah remains a vital part of Liverpool’s history, his representative, Ramy Abbas, has previously hinted at a binary future for the player. According to reports from Sabah, the stance is clear: Salah will either renew with Liverpool or head to Saudi Arabia for a lucrative final chapter of his career.

It’s not just Salah’s future that is uncertain. Reports from AS indicate that Arne Slot is “walking on thin ice,” with every matchday potentially being his last. The pressure of following Jurgen Klopp has been immense, and the fractured relationship with the squad’s talisman has only added fuel to the fire.

The Return of Xabi Alonso?

As the Slot era faces a potential collapse, Liverpool are already looking at successors. According to TEAMtalk, the club has made “initial contact” with former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The current coaching sensation has reportedly already discussed potential transfer targets should he take the reins at Anfield. Whether Alonso’s arrival would be enough to convince Salah to stay remains the multi-million-pound question for the Liverpool board.
