MADRID – Real Madrid secured their place in the Spanish Women’s Super Cup final with a dominant 3-1 victory over cross-town rivals Atlético Madrid this Tuesday. A blistering first-half performance proved enough to dismantle Atlético’s defense and keep the Madridistas‘ title hopes alive.

A First-Half Blitz

Real Madrid started the semi-final at a frantic pace, catching Atlético off guard within the opening minutes. The deadlock was broken just six minutes in when Athenea del Castillo finished a brilliant team move to put the hosts ahead.

The pressure didn’t stop there. In the 15th minute, Scottish star Caroline Weir doubled the lead with a clinical finish, showcasing why she remains one of the most influential players in the squad. Just four minutes later, Weir turned provider, setting up Colombian sensation Linda Caicedo for the third goal. By the 20th minute, Real Madrid had effectively put the game to bed with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Atlético Fight Back as Pace Slows

With a comfortable lead at halftime, Real Madrid’s head coach opted to manage the squad’s energy, making several tactical substitutions in the second half. This allowed Atlético Madrid to find more space in the final third.

In the 72nd minute, Brazilian forward Luany managed to pull one back for Atlético, making it 3-1. Despite the late surge from the Colchoneras, Real Madrid’s defense remained organized, thwarting any hopes of a dramatic comeback.

Eyes on the Prize: A Potential Clásico Final?

Real Madrid now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

Having suffered a heavy defeat in last year’s final against Barça, the Merengues are desperate for redemption. Whether they face the Catalan giants or the Basque side, Real Madrid looks in prime form to challenge for the first major silverware of the season.
