Manchester United have added Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma to their shortlist as they assess options to reinforce their attacking midfield ahead of next season.

According to TeamTalk, the Japanese international has emerged as a serious target at Old Trafford, particularly amid growing uncertainty over the future of Bruno Fernandes, who could leave the club at the end of the campaign.

Mitoma Impresses Manchester United Scouts

Since joining Brighton, Mitoma has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic attacking players. His dribbling ability, creativity, and direct goal threat have made him a standout performer and attracted attention from top clubs across Europe.

Last season, Mitoma recorded 10 goals and four assists, numbers that significantly boosted his reputation and market value. Manchester United’s recruitment team reportedly views his profile as well suited to the club’s need for greater attacking fluidity.

Brighton Braced for Strong Interest

Brighton are well aware of Mitoma’s importance and have previously shown little interest in selling. During the January transfer window, the club rejected a bid exceeding £50 million from Al-Nassr, underlining their firm stance.

Despite that rejection, interest from the Saudi Pro League remains active, and Brighton expect continued approaches in future transfer windows. Any potential deal is therefore expected to be complex and costly.

Manchester United Planning for Life After Bruno Fernandes

Internally, Mitoma is viewed as one of several candidates who could help fill the creative void should Bruno Fernandes depart. United’s hierarchy has begun exploring the market early to avoid being caught unprepared.

However, any formal move is likely to depend on managerial decisions. Manchester United are currently assessing their coaching situation, with plans to appoint a permanent manager closer to the end of the season, which could influence transfer priorities.
