Oliver Glasner has played down speculation linking him with the Manchester United managerial job, insisting his full focus remains on Crystal Palace despite growing reports suggesting he is a leading candidate to replace Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United are searching for a new head coach for the remainder of the season after parting ways with Amorim last week. Glasner, whose contract with Crystal Palace expires in June, has emerged as a favorite in media reports, but the German coach was blunt when asked about the rumors.
Speaking at a press conference, Glasner dismissed the idea of a move to Old Trafford and stressed his contractual commitment to Palace.
“In my contract with Palace, there’s a paragraph that I’ll reveal to you: I’m not allowed to gamble, so I don’t know what the odds are,” Glasner said, brushing off talk of a potential switch to Manchester United.
He went on to shut down further questions on the subject.
“I am the manager of Crystal Palace, so it’s a waste of your time asking me more questions about this, as I don’t talk about any teams other than Crystal Palace,” Glasner concluded.
Manchester United consider interim solution
With Glasner unlikely to leave Palace before the end of his contract, Manchester United are now focused on appointing an interim manager to guide the team through the rest of the season.
Following Amorim’s dismissal on Monday (5), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer emerged as a leading short-term option. The Norwegian, who previously managed United before departing in 2021, has reportedly expressed openness to an unexpected return to the club.
According to reports, Solskjaer is willing to take charge until the end of the season, potentially with the possibility of extending his stay on a permanent basis. United’s board are said to be receptive to the idea, with further developments expected in the coming days.
Other candidates linked to United job
In addition to Solskjaer, several other high-profile names continue to be linked with the Manchester United vacancy. Enzo Maresca, Xavi Hernández, and former England manager Gareth Southgate have all been mentioned as possible candidates as the club evaluates its next move.
For now, however, Glasner has made his position clear, leaving United to look elsewhere as they seek stability for the remainder of the campaign.
