Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain, and the situation has attracted the attention of Al-Hilal, who are considering the Polish striker as a possible replacement for Darwin Núñez.
The 37-year-old forward has not yet renewed his contract with Barcelona, which expires at the end of June. While Lewandowski’s priority is still to remain at the Catalan club, sources indicate he is open to a move at the end of the season if an agreement is not reached.
Al-Hilal Track Lewandowski’s Contract Situation
According to reports from Alyaum and the Saudi Times, information later echoed by Sport, Al-Hilal are closely following developments. The Saudi club is reportedly not fully satisfied with Darwin Núñez’s performances, and an exit for the Uruguayan striker is being discussed internally.
Within this context, Lewandowski has emerged as a high-profile option to lead Al-Hilal’s attack next season, should Núñez depart.
January Move Considered but Unlikely
Al-Hilal would have preferred to sign Lewandowski during the January transfer window, but the deal is considered difficult. Barcelona are reluctant to weaken their attacking depth mid-season, making a winter move unlikely.
Behind the scenes, Lewandowski is also assessing Barcelona’s plans. According to Sport, if the club offers a renewal with a reduced sporting role or lower financial terms, the chances of a move to Saudi Arabia could significantly increase.
MLS Interest Also on the Table
Saudi Arabia is not the only destination monitoring the striker. Journalists Nizaar Kinsella and Nick Mashiter, from the BBC, report that Chicago Fire, of Major League Soccer, have already held exploratory talks with Barcelona regarding Lewandowski. So far, negotiations have not advanced.
Reduced Role Under Hansi Flick
Under Hansi Flick, Lewandowski has seen his role slightly reduced this season. He has featured in 19 matches, starting 10 of them. In the last three games, he missed one entirely and came off the bench in the other two—scoring once as a substitute.
With his contract nearing its end and interest growing from Saudi Arabia and the United States, Lewandowski’s future is shaping up to be one of Barcelona’s key storylines heading into the summer transfer window.
