Chelsea are already active in the transfer market following the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new head coach. The club’s hierarchy is moving quickly to reinforce the squad and hopes to make Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni the first signing of the new managerial era.

The Blues officially announced Rosenior on Tuesday (January 6), with the former Strasbourg manager taking over after the dismissal of Enzo Maresca earlier this week. With the new coach in place, Chelsea’s focus has immediately shifted to recruitment.

Chelsea accelerate plans after Rosenior arrival

Chelsea’s board believes the squad still requires key reinforcements to compete consistently at the highest level. Defensive stability has been identified as a priority, and the club has begun closely monitoring potential additions.

Among the names under consideration, Alessandro Bastoni has emerged as a top target. The Italian international, currently at Inter Milan, is highly admired by Chelsea’s sporting department, which sees him as a cornerstone for the club’s long-term defensive rebuild.

Bastoni identified as priority defensive signing

According to FCInterNews.it, Bastoni is one of Chelsea’s main objectives in the current transfer window. The Premier League club is preparing to make a significant financial effort to convince Inter Milan to part ways with one of their most important players.

Chelsea believe Bastoni’s profile fits perfectly with Rosenior’s vision, offering composure on the ball, tactical intelligence and experience at the highest level of European football. Internally, the defender is viewed as a potential leader at the back and a key figure in Chelsea’s renewed title ambitions.

Chelsea willing to make major financial offer

Reports indicate that Chelsea are prepared to submit an offer in the region of €70 million to secure Bastoni’s signature. While talks are still at an early stage and no formal proposal has yet been finalized, the club is optimistic about opening negotiations in the coming days.

Despite their strong interest in the Inter defender, Chelsea are also evaluating alternative options should the deal prove difficult to complete this winter. Even so, Bastoni remains at the top of the list as Chelsea look to make a statement signing at the start of the Liam Rosenior era.
