Barcelona are managing Gavi’s recovery with caution after the midfielder experienced discomfort during the match against Levante on August 23. The 21-year-old, who only recently returned from a long-term knee injury, remains sidelined under a conservative treatment plan.
Barcelona rules out immediate surgery
According to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi underwent fresh evaluations on Friday (12) at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Despite speculation about another operation, the club together with doctors, the player, and his family agreed to continue with gradual treatment for at least another week.
The decision aims to avoid rushing the player back onto the pitch, especially given that he already missed 11 months of action after major knee surgery. Barcelona insists on a step-by-step approach to minimize risks.
Possible return timeline
If progress continues as planned, Gavi could be available again in October. However, if discomfort persists, a minor surgical intervention remains on the table. Such a procedure would not be as invasive as the previous one but could still sideline him for up to four weeks.
Gavi’s importance to Barcelona
Last season, the midfielder featured in 42 matches, contributing three goals and two assists. A product of La Masia, he is now entering his fifth year as a professional and is considered a cornerstone of Barcelona’s midfield future.

Barcelona return from the FIFA break this Sunday (14), facing Valencia at the Johan Cruyff Stadium at 4 p.m. (Brasília time). The club remains unable to use Camp Nou, which has been closed for renovations since 2023.
