Laporte frustrated with Al-Nassr amid registration delays; Athletic Bilbao pushing to complete transfer

Spanish defender remains in limbo as Al-Nassr allegedly delays paperwork, complicating his return to La Liga.
Registration issues stall Laporte’s return to Bilbao
Athletic Bilbao continues efforts to sign Aymeric Laporte, following his release from Saudi side Al-Nassr. The deal was intended to swap Laporte for Iñigo Martínez, who joined the Asian club as the new defensive starter.
However, Al-Nassr’s alleged delay in sending the necessary documentation prevented Bilbao from registering Laporte before the La Liga transfer window closed, leaving the 31-year-old in a state of uncertainty.
“Athletic sent everything correctly, on time, and in the correct format. The transfer was completed and certified in writing,” journalist Antón Meana confirmed.
“Laporte believes Al-Nassr misbehaved with him over the summer and sees this as another case. The player feels completely helpless,” he added.
Laporte’s stint in Saudi Arabia
During two seasons at Al-Nassr, Laporte made 69 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing one assist. He joined the club amid a high-profile project that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo Brozovic, João Félix, Kingsley Coman, Sadio Mané, Mohamed Simakan, and goalkeeper Bento.
Athletic Bilbao remains committed
Despite the complications, Bilbao continues to push for the defender’s registration, hoping the issue can be resolved swiftly to strengthen their backline. Laporte’s return is seen as a strategic reinforcement for the upcoming La Liga campaign.
Al-Nassr prepares for domestic action
Following the FIFA international break, Al-Nassr returns to Saudi Pro League action, facing Al-Kholood in their second match of the season. Coach Jorge Jesus’s side won their opening game and aims to maintain momentum despite the ongoing transfer saga.
