Pedri praised by Spain coach: “The best in the world in his position”

Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spain national team, did not hold back when praising Pedri after the midfielder’s dazzling performance in the 6-0 win against Turkey in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The Barcelona star scored twice and was once again decisive for La Roja.
Luis de la Fuente Highlights Pedri’s Unique Talent
Speaking after the match, De la Fuente placed the 21-year-old at the very top of world football in his role.
“Unfortunately, history hasn’t always been fair to Spanish players like Iniesta, Xavi or Xabi Alonso. Now we have Lamine, Fabián, Pedri, Merino, Zubimendi… many talents. But Pedri is the best in the world in his position; that’s just how it is,” he said.
Pedri’s Numbers With Barcelona
In the 2024/25 season, Pedri was one of the most consistent performers for Barcelona under Hansi Flick:

His ability to link defense and attack makes him indispensable, providing balance and creativity in the Blaugrana midfield.
Toni Kroos: “I Couldn’t Stop Him”
Former Real Madrid star Toni Kroos also praised Pedri after facing him during his final season.
“We were crushed at home. I thought I could catch him because he doesn’t look fast, but he dribbles everywhere. I couldn’t stop him, not even with a foul,” Kroos admitted.
The Real Madrid Rejection That Shaped His Career
Pedri’s journey could have been very different. At 15, he had a trial at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas academy, but was rejected.
“They told me I wasn’t good enough. In the end, I was lucky enough to end up at the team I love,” Pedri recalled.
Now, the midfielder has become a symbol of Barcelona and one of Spain’s brightest hopes for the future.
