Everton 2-0 Brighton: Grealish shines as Toffees celebrate debut at new stadium

Everton opened a new chapter in their history with a dream start at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, defeating Brighton 2–0 in front of over 52,000 fans on Sunday (August 24).

Historic First Goal

It didn’t take long for the home crowd to erupt. In the 23rd minute, Iliman Ndiaye scored the first-ever goal at the new ground, finishing off a clever assist from debutant Jack Grealish, who looked reborn in Everton blue.

Grealish the Game-Changer

The England international, on loan from Manchester City, continued to steal the spotlight after the break. His second assist of the day set up James Garner, who blasted home a powerful strike to double the lead early in the second half.

Pickford’s Heroics

Brighton had a chance to spoil the party in the 77th minute, but Jordan Pickford denied Danny Welbeck from the penalty spot with a superb save—sending the new stadium into a frenzy and preserving Everton’s clean sheet.

Manager’s Reaction

Manager David Moyes praised his team for bouncing back after last week’s defeat to Leeds, calling the night “a perfect start in our new home” and hailing Grealish’s performance as “inspirational.”
