Julian Draxler admits he hasn’t digested his departure from PSG and expresses his pain over the way he left the club

Julian Draxler has revealed the emotional impact of his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, admitting he has not yet digested the way the club ended his cycle in France.

“PSG Was More Than Just an Employer”

In an interview with Foot Mercato, the 31-year-old midfielder, now at Al-Ahli in Qatar, opened up about the painful farewell:

“I’m not going to lie: it was hard to swallow. The club let me go, and I didn’t even train with the first team. PSG was more than just an employer. I fell in love with the club, with the city. Being left out hurt.”

Despite his disappointment, Draxler acknowledged that such decisions are part of football, even if difficult to accept.

Titles and Sudden Goodbye

Draxler joined PSG in 2017 from Wolfsburg and stayed until 2022, collecting four Ligue 1 titles and four French Cups, alongside memorable Champions League campaigns. The German admitted he had not expected such a sudden departure after building what he thought was a solid career in Paris.

A New Start in Qatar

Since joining Al-Ahli in 2023, the midfielder has found form again, with 29 appearances and 18 goals according to Transfermarkt. Still, Draxler confessed that leaving PSG left a scar, as the club and the city had become central to his professional and personal life.

For him, the move was not just a sporting change but also the end of a deep connection with Paris and its fans.
