Iñaki Peña’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain and the newspaper does not rule out a contract renewal

Goalkeeper Iñaki Peña faces an unclear future at Barcelona after the arrival of Joan García and increased competition in goal. While Italian side Como and several La Liga clubs have expressed interest, Barça could still opt to extend his contract before deciding on a sale or loan.
Competition Leaves Peña Without Space
The 26-year-old goalkeeper has seen his chances diminish following the signing of Joan García from Espanyol. With Wojciech Szczęsny and the recovering Marc-André ter Stegen also in the squad, Peña is now the fourth option in Hansi Flick’s plans.
His last appearance came on May 25 against Athletic Bilbao, when Barcelona fielded a rotated lineup after already securing the league title.
Contract Renewal and Transfer Options
According to Marca, Barcelona is considering renewing Peña’s contract, which currently runs until 2026, in order to protect his market value. A loan deal is also on the table, with the aim of securing more consistent playing time for the Spaniard.
Como, coached by Cesc Fàbregas, made an offer earlier in the summer, but negotiations stalled. Meanwhile, several mid-table La Liga clubs have made inquiries, with Peña reportedly open to staying in Spain.
Peña’s Track Record
Last season, Peña featured in 23 matches for Barcelona his most active campaign since turning professional. While opportunities were limited, he provided stability when called upon to replace Ter Stegen.
Barça Start Strong in La Liga Without Peña
Barcelona opened their 2025/26 La Liga campaign with a 3-0 win at Mallorca, with Joan García starting between the posts. Lamine Yamal led the way with a goal and an assist, while Raphinha also found the net.
The Blaugrana will face Levante on Saturday (23) before a potential return to the Camp Nou on September 14 against Valencia.
