David Raya the hero as Arsenal beat Manchester United at Old Trafford

Arsenal made a winning start to the 2025/26 Premier League season on Sunday (17), defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to an early goal from defender Riccardo Calafiori and a standout display from goalkeeper David Raya.
Arsenal Strike First, United Chase
United dominated possession in the opening stages but were stunned in the 12th minute when Calafiori rose highest from a corner to head Arsenal into the lead. The Red Devils attempted to respond quickly, with Dorgu hitting the post midway through the half, but the Gunners carried their advantage into halftime.
Raya Denies United’s Fightback
The second half followed the same script: United on the ball, Arsenal disciplined in defense. Captain Bruno Fernandes came closest with a curling free kick, only for Raya to produce a fine save.
The Spaniard’s defining moment came in the 72nd minute, when Bryan Mbeumo’s header looked destined for the net, but Raya stretched brilliantly to keep Arsenal in front.
Arsenal nearly doubled their lead late on through Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, but United defender Matthijs de Ligt intervened to prevent further damage.
