Lewandowski says Real Madrid won’t find another Lamine Yamal

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has dismissed comparisons between rising star Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s latest signing, Franco Mastantuano. The 18-year-old Argentine forward joined Los Blancos from River Plate for €45 million, but the Polish veteran believes such parallels are not only unrealistic but potentially harmful.
Comparisons Could Damage Young Players
Speaking to ESPN, Lewandowski warned against putting excessive pressure on young talents. “You can’t compare players, especially at this age. Many don’t yet have the mentality to handle so much pressure,” he said. The striker stressed that true greatness is measured over time, noting: “The challenge isn’t just reaching the top, but staying there for ten years or more. What happens when they’re 25, 26, or 28? That’s the question.”
Barcelona Star Sees Yamal as a Rare Talent
Asked if Yamal’s success has increased pressure on Real Madrid to unearth a similar gem, Lewandowski was blunt: “There’s definitely pressure, but I think it’s impossible. It’s better to go your own way.” He likened the situation to the Messi–Ronaldo era, saying: “You can’t find the next Messi or Cristiano. They are unique. The same goes for Lamine Yamal a case that appears once every ten years.”
Early Pressure Can Weaken Future Careers
Lewandowski also warned that the hype surrounding prodigies can undermine them in the long run. “It’s not an immediate issue, but early pressure takes its toll over time,” he said.
