Palmeiras rejects R$65 million offer from Monterrey for Flaco López

Palmeiras has turned down a €12 million (approximately R$64.7 million) bid from Monterrey for striker Flaco López, despite growing international interest in the Argentine forward. The decision reflects the club’s determination to keep one of its most influential players during the current transfer window.

Monterrey Joins Race for Argentine Striker

López, 24, has been a target for River Plate for several seasons, but Monterrey has now entered the picture with a substantial offer. The Mexican club, home to stars such as Sergio Ramos, Sergio Canales, and Lucas Ocampos, is looking to bolster its attack but Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira has made it clear that the striker is not for sale at this stage.

Key Numbers in 2025 Season

Flaco López is enjoying a prolific campaign, with 13 goals and 13 assists in 39 matches across all competitions. In the Brazilian league alone, he has scored four goals, and he also netted once in the FIFA Club World Cup, where he played four games.

Why Palmeiras Said No

The São Paulo club views López as a crucial piece in its bid for titles this season. With Raphael Veiga potentially on the verge of a move to Los Angeles FC, losing another star attacker could significantly impact the team’s depth and attacking options.

River Plate Still Watching Closely

While Monterrey’s approach was rejected, River Plate remains attentive to the striker’s situation. The Buenos Aires side, managed by Marcelo Gallardo, continues to see López as a long-term goal, keeping the door open for a future bid.

For now, Palmeiras has closed the door on any mid-season transfer for López, prioritizing on-field success over immediate financial gain.
