Liverpool agree personal terms with Marc Guéhi, awaiting green light from Crystal Palace

£35 million deal expected to bolster Reds’ defensive depth

Liverpool have reached a personal agreement with Marc Guéhi, but the transfer still depends on Crystal Palace’s approval. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Anfield side has settled contract terms with the 25-year-old defender and is now awaiting the final go-ahead from the Selhurst Park club.

Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with the fee expected to be around £35 million (approximately R$255.45 million). While Guéhi’s market valuation is believed to be higher, Liverpool are leveraging the fact that his current contract with Palace runs only until June 2026 a factor that limits the London club’s bargaining power if they wish to avoid losing him for free later.

The Reds see Guéhi as a strategic addition to strengthen their backline. Last season, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté formed the regular starting partnership, but the squad lacked a high-level rotation option capable of competing for a starting role across the campaign.

For Crystal Palace, the potential transfer could still deliver a significant profit. The club signed Guéhi from Chelsea in 2021 for €23.34 million (around R$146.98 million) and stands to make a surplus even with less than two years remaining on his contract. However, if no agreement is reached, the England international could sign a pre-contract with another club from January, leaving Palace without compensation.

The talks come just days after Liverpool faced Crystal Palace in the English Super Cup. The match ended 2-2 in regular time before Palace clinched a 3-2 victory on penalties a morale boost for Oliver Glasner’s side ahead of the Premier League kick-off.
