Fermín López confirms he will continue at Barcelona after shining in the Joan Gamper Trophy

Midfielder rejects Premier League interest following two-goal performance against Como
Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has ended speculation over his future by confirming he will remain at the club, despite receiving offers from Manchester City and Chelsea. Speaking after Sunday’s 5-0 victory over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy, the 21-year-old said staying at the Camp Nou was “a dream” and that he is “happy to help the team.”
The Catalan club had already turned down approaches from the Premier League giants, making clear their intention to keep one of La Masia’s most promising graduates. López’s decisive performance in the 60th edition of the annual curtain-raiser only reinforced that decision, as he scored twice in the first half to set Hansi Flick’s side on course for a commanding win.
Match Highlights
López opened the scoring in the 20th minute, capitalising on a misplaced pass just outside the penalty area before driving forward and firing a powerful left-footed shot past Jean Butez. Fourteen minutes later, he struck again this time latching onto a pass from Frenkie de Jong and finishing clinically into the same corner, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Barcelona continued to dominate, with Raphinha adding a third before the break after a Marcus Rashford assist. Lamine Yamal then struck either side of half-time to complete the rout.

Key Role Under Flick
López’s emergence has coincided with the arrival of Hansi Flick, under whom he contributed to 18 goals in all competitions last season. His technical ability, positional versatility and hunger for success make him a valuable asset in the German coach’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
With a long-term contract in place and the player reaffirming his commitment, Barcelona look set to rely heavily on López as they aim for silverware in 2025.
