Luis Enrique approves Donnarumma’s departure from PSG and Lucas Chevalier is expected to become the starting goalkeeper

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has reportedly given Gianluigi Donnarumma the green light to leave the club this summer, with the Premier League emerging as the most likely destination for the Italian goalkeeper.
According to RMC Sport, Manchester United is leading the race for Donnarumma, with PSG valuing the 25-year-old at around £25 million (€29 million). His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could leave on a free transfer if no agreement is reached before January, when he would be eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club.
Chevalier to Take Over as PSG’s Number One
PSG has already lined up Donnarumma’s replacement, securing a €40 million deal for Lille’s Lucas Chevalier. The 22-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign in Ligue 1 and will arrive in Paris as Luis Enrique’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Why PSG is Moving On from Donnarumma
Two key factors are behind the decision to part ways with the former AC Milan star:
- Tactical Fit – Donnarumma’s style of play reportedly does not align with the possession-based approach Luis Enrique plans to implement in the new season.
- Declining Form – The Italian posted a 67% save success rate last season, the lowest of his professional career.
More Reinforcements on the Way
Alongside Chevalier, PSG is also finalizing the €67 million signing of Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth. The centre-back will undergo medical tests in Paris before being officially unveiled ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final.
With these moves, PSG is signaling a significant shift in its defensive setup for the upcoming campaign.
