Real Madrid impressed by Arda Güler’s dedication in training

With Jude Bellingham sidelined after shoulder surgery, Arda Güler has emerged as the top candidate to start in Real Madrid’s midfield. According to Diário AS journalist Rubén Martins, Güler has impressed the coaching staff more than Franco Mastantuono during preseason preparations.
The 20-year-old Turkish international is showing elite fitness levels and tactical maturity, positioning himself as the clear favorite under Xabi Alonso, who officially begins his first full season as head coach.
Güler Impresses During Summer and Training Camp
Even during the offseason, Güler maintained his fitness regimen, and it’s paying off. The player reportedly arrived at camp in top shape, outperforming most of the squad in physical metrics.
“He’s been one of the standouts in training sessions and has made a strong case to replace Bellingham during his absence,” said a member of the technical staff.
Alonso’s Arrival Boosts Güler’s Status
Under Carlo Ancelotti, Güler was mostly a rotational player, featuring in low-stakes fixtures. But Xabi Alonso, familiar with the player from his Bundesliga days, seems ready to bet on the former Fenerbahçe prodigy.
Meanwhile, Franco Mastantuono, a recent signing requested by Alonso, has yet to settle after arriving from River Plate. Though seen as a long-term project, he is not expected to start immediately.
Strong Showing at FIFA Club World Cup
Güler’s standout performances during the FIFA Club World Cup, where he contributed three goals and emerged as the team’s main creative force, further cemented his claim to a starting role. Alongside Gonzalo García, Güler was one of the tournament’s breakout stars.
Güler Seen as Modric’s Natural Heir
With Luka Modric now at AC Milan after leaving Madrid at the end of his contract, the club has a creative void in midfield. Güler, who plays with vision and verticality, is being groomed as a direct successor to the legendary Croatian.
“Arda has all the tools to become a historical figure at the club,” Alonso reportedly told his staff.
