Manchester United rejects offers and plans to renew Harry Maguire’s contract

Harry Maguire is staying put at Manchester United, with the club officially rejecting multiple offers for the experienced defender from Premier League and Serie A clubs. The move signals a complete turnaround in Maguire’s status at Old Trafford, where he is now considered a key part of Rúben Amorim’s squad plans.

Retirement at United? Maguire Wants to Stay Long-Term

According to journalists Mike Keegan (Mail Sport) and Sam Wallace (Telegraph), both the club and the player are on the same page: Maguire wants to retire at Manchester United. Talks of an extension are expected to begin soon, with Amorim having already requested the club to secure the defender’s future earlier this year.

Maguire is currently under contract until June 2026. With a current market value of €13 million, United are keen to avoid the risk of him leaving on a free transfer, especially after his resurgence in recent seasons.

Key Stats: A Resurgence Under Amorim

Over the last two campaigns, Maguire has experienced a revival, both in form and in influence.

  • 2023/24 season: 31 matches, 4 goals, 2 assists
  • 2024/25 season: 40 matches, 4 goals, 1 assist

This improved performance has made him not only a defensive stalwart but also a set-piece threat.

From Exit Talks to Essential Role

Initially considered a potential departure under previous management, Maguire has now firmly earned his place under Amorim, who sees him as part of the team’s leadership core. His experience, physicality, and composure in possession are viewed as vital assets, particularly with the club rebuilding its identity under a new tactical system.

A Veteran Presence

Maguire, 32, joined Manchester United in 2019 from Leicester City in a then-record transfer for a defender. He has also been a regular for England, including at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in five matches.
