Newcastle restarts its bid for Marc Guéhi, and Crystal Palace asks for €64 million

This is not Newcastle’s first attempt to sign Guéhi. In 2024, the Magpies reportedly offered over €75 million (£65 million), but Palace declined. Now, with the player entering the final phase of his contract, Newcastle hopes to close a deal below €58.5 million, capitalizing on Palace’s urgency to avoid losing him for free.

John Textor Still Influential at Palace

Although John Textor has begun the process of selling his 45% stake in Crystal Palace, the American businessman continues to operate behind the scenes on club matters particularly in the transfer market.

UEFA has acknowledged that Textor does not hold decisive authority at the club. However, his ties to other football teams, including Olympique Lyonnais, remain a topic of regulatory interest under multi-club ownership rules.

In a recent statement, Textor remarked that if he had full control, he would have brought in talent from his affiliated clubs to strengthen Palace a plan that never materialized but underscores his ongoing influence.

Guéhi’s Rising Stock and Imminent Exit

Since arriving from Chelsea in 2021, Guéhi has made over 130 appearances for Crystal Palace and established himself as a tactical leader and defensive stalwart. He helped the club lift the 2025 FA Cup and has become a consistent presence in England’s national squad.

With his contract winding down, Palace is seeking to maximize value on a potential transfer. Alongside Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham are also reportedly monitoring the situation. A decision is expected before the close of the summer transfer window.
