Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United exit pending Niko Kovac’s approval

Borussia Dortmund considers return of winger, but coach remains unconvinced

Jadon Sancho is nearing an exit from Manchester United, but a return to Borussia Dortmund will only be possible if head coach Niko Kovac approves the deal, according to Sport Bild.

Dortmund wants him, but Kovac unsure

While Dortmund’s board and fans are in favor of bringing Sancho back, Kovac reportedly has tactical doubts. The Croatian manager is hesitant to approve the deal due to the player’s limited defensive contribution and the fact that his preferred system does not use traditional wingers.

Dortmund currently plays in a 3-4-2-1 formation, relying on Julian Brandt and Karim Adeyemi to support the striker from central attacking midfield roles. Full-backs Ryerson and Svensson handle wide play and overlapping runs, which could make it difficult to accommodate a player like Sancho.

Sancho’s fit in Dortmund’s new system

Despite tactical questions, some believe Sancho’s speed and creative movement could thrive in this system, especially playing behind striker Serhou Guirassy or as a roaming midfielder exploiting space between lines.

However, Kovac remains undecided, and without his approval, a move back to the Bundesliga appears stalled.

Manchester United willing to sell — at a loss

United is keen to offload Sancho permanently, having endured a disappointing stint since his high-profile move in 2021. The Red Devils are reportedly asking for €20 million, a steep discount from the over €85 million they paid to sign him from Dortmund.

Sancho’s market value has since dropped to €28 million, reflecting poor form and off-field issues in recent seasons.
