Real Madrid Open to Selling Vini Jr Amid Contract Stalemate, Says Spanish Report

Brazilian star has not reached a renewal agreement; club may consider offers this summer

Tensions are growing between Real Madrid and Vinícius Júnior over the lack of progress in contract renewal talks. According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants are now considering selling the Brazilian forward “if a good offer arrives” during this transfer window.

Despite being one of the club’s biggest stars in recent years, Vini Jr. has yet to agree to an extension. His current contract runs until 2027, but the lack of movement has caused unease at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Renewal Rejected, Situation Stalls

Earlier this year, Real Madrid submitted a renewal offer, which was rejected by the player’s camp, according to The Athletic. Since then, no further progress has been made, despite the club’s interest in resolving the matter before the situation escalates.

The current contract includes a staggering €1 billion release clause, set during his last renewal in 2022. Until recently, Madrid refused to entertain any bids. Now, however, the club may listen to offers, especially with the summer market in full swing.

Saudi Arabia Already Made a Move

According to The Athletic, Saudi Arabian clubs have already expressed interest in signing Vini Jr. A delegation reportedly met with his agents in London last summer to discuss a possible mega-deal.

Vini, who earns €15 million net per year the same as new teammate Kylian Mbappé is reportedly demanding a signing bonus similar to the French star’s, to reflect his long-standing contributions to the club, including goals in the last two Champions League finals.

A Changing Role Under Xabi Alonso?

Sporting factors also weigh heavily in the current impasse. Under new coach Xabi Alonso, Vinícius Jr. may not have the same guaranteed starting role he enjoyed in past seasons. The Spanish media claims that the Brazilian only started the Club World Cup semi-final because of a last-minute tactical reshuffle, following an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That said, his 2024/25 numbers remain strong:

  • 58 matches
  • 22 goals
  • 19 assists

Yet, some believe his dip in form compared to the previous season removed him from Ballon d’Or contention, weakening his leverage in negotiations.
