Smit Responds to Transfer Speculation

In an interview with Dutch outlet HLN Nieuws, Smit addressed the reported interest from Barcelona and Madrid:

“It’s great to hear about the interest. They’re the two biggest clubs in the world, I think,” he said. “It was cool to see and read, but I just want to show here that I can do it. That doesn’t distract me much.”

Despite the rumors, Smit appears focused on developing at AZ, where he has a contract until June 2028.

Playing Style and Market Value

This season, Smit has made 30 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists. His style has been described by Mundo Deportivo as a blend of Modric and De Jong highlighting his vision, composure, and ball-carrying ability in midfield.

AZ Alkmaar reportedly values the youngster at around €25 million (R$228 million), though no official offers have been made.

What’s Next?

With major clubs circling, Smit’s next steps will be closely watched during the upcoming transfer window. For now, he remains committed to AZ, signaling a mature approach to his future despite the high-profile interest.
