Xabi Alonso makes decision on Rodrygo’s departure and informs Real Madrid

he Brazilian forward could be on the move as Real Madrid braces for a squad shake-up under their new coach.
Real Madrid’s journey in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup continues but for Rodrygo Goes, the tournament might mark the end of his time in white.
According to Planeta Real Madrid via journalist Eduardo Inda, head coach Xabi Alonso has given the green light for Rodrygo to be sold after the competition. The Spanish manager reportedly informed the club’s board that Rodrygo is not essential to his tactical plans.
Why Xabi Alonso is Ready to Let Rodrygo Go
The decision follows a string of underwhelming performances from the Brazilian winger this season. Despite being a regular under Ancelotti, Rodrygo has failed to impress in the early stages of Xabi Alonso’s reign.
In the Club World Cup, the 23-year-old has featured for just 89 minutes across all matches though he did provide one assist in the opening game.
“Xabi Alonso doesn’t see Rodrygo as crucial to the project,” says the report. “His exit has been approved internally, pending offers.”
Rodrygo by the Numbers – 2024/25 Season
- Appearances: 53
- Goals: 14
- Assists: 10
- Minutes played at Club World Cup: 89
Transfer Window Heating Up: Who Wants Rodrygo?
Real Madrid is now expected to listen to offers for the Brazilian international, with interest coming from multiple fronts:
- Premier League clubs: Several English giants have shown long-standing interest.
- Saudi Arabia: Al-Hilal made contact in recent weeks but was turned down for now.
Madrid are reportedly looking for a profitable exit as they reshape the squad with new stars like Kylian Mbappé and Gonzalo García rising in influence.
Mbappé Returns, Rodrygo Out?
With Mbappé back from illness and expected to play (either as a starter or off the bench) in the knockout clash against Juventus, competition in the front line is fierce.
In Mbappé’s absence, Gonzalo García has become a sensation, scoring key goals and earning praise from both fans and the coaching staff.
That has pushed Rodrygo further down the pecking order, making his exit all the more likely before the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
